The Team

Westen Johnson

CEO and Co-Founder

Westen Johnson is the CEO and Founder of Soilless. He graduated Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design in 2019. He has a deep appreciation for human-centered design and nature, and years of experience designing for and growing in living systems. Westen has taken a class on aquaponics systems at RISD, which inspired him to continue on with making his own hydroponics system. He hopes to contribute to making healthy food more accessible to everyone. 

Julie Joo

Co-Founder + Designer

Julie Joo is the Co-Founder and a designer of Soilless. She graduated Rhode Island School of Design with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design in 2019. Julie holds a deep appreciation for user empathy and values storytelling in her work. She also works mostly on branding and making Soilless a more visually cohesive company. Her dream is to work on projects that help better the world.
